Fresh confusion in Ekiti PDP over Gov candidate By Yaqoub Popoola - Ado-Ekiti Indication have emerged in Ado-Ekiti that a high level political horse-trading have begun in Abuja among the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants as attempt to produce an acceptable candidate for the 2014 governorship election seems to be generating controversies. Saturday Independent gathered that the conflicting positions of the national leader of the party, President Goodluck Jonathan, and the national Chiarman, Adamu Muazu, on the modality for picking a candidate for the party causing the confusion. One of the aspirants, Tunji Odeyemi, frowned at the latest development, saying it was capable of truncating his chances. He condemned the alleged desperate disposition of some of the aspirants whom he accused of flouting the President’s genuine advice that Ekiti should adopt the consensus option. “If Mr. President out of love and concern for our party in Ekiti State advised that we should agree on a consensus candidate, anyone who goes against this should not be seen as a loyal party member,” he said. Odeyemi added that with less than four months to the election, he has not seen the magic the PDP would use to conduct a rancour-free primary. While Mr. President in a meeting with aspirants expressed his desire to have a consensus candidate, the new party chairman seems to be opposed to the idea. The PDP is to adopt zoning, consensus or conduct primary election. Some governorship aspirants, who had refused to obtain nomination forms, hinged their action on the stance of the President. With less than four months to the election, the party is yet to agree on the modality for picking its flag bearer, as about 20 of aspirants have picked the mandatory N10 million nomination form. It was learnt that the cloudy situation had prompted some of the aspirants to seek alternatives to the race with some of them now lobbying for ministerial, senatorial and deputy governorship slots.
