Got flowers, saw a show and Barbara and just made it to hangar at 1800. Saw Kempsey and he told me to give his love to Alice when I saw her. I didnt know what he was talking about, but I said I would. We (Hartmand and I) werent on the flight list but our crew was. I wondered about that and Mr. Allen told me that Mr. Campbell wanted to see me. I thought I was on report for something, but it turned out that he wanted us to get ready to go to Diego for new planes. Hot dog was I excited. Packed my bag and went to bed to think about Alice. We may get one night of liberty. ELSEWHERE IN THE PACIFIC: The submarine USS Gudgeon sinks the Japanese merchant Nissho Maru in the East China Sea, 20 miles off the south coast of Korea. Dutch aircraft sink Japanese collier Yubari Maru off Koepang, Timor. Japanese transport ship Kitano Maru sinks on a Japanese mine in Lingayen Gulf, Philippines. At Toungoo, Burma, Japanese aircraft bomb and strafe Chinese positions and artillery fires tear gas shells, but the Chinese do not yield. Japanese await the arrival of 6-inch Howitzers (3rd Field Artillery Regiment) to supplement the air strikes.
