Friday 12/12/14 : Lately, it is so reassuring when I step out of my house and see a decent number of volunteers ready to drive the vehicles. Last night there were indeed more than enough drivers so it made me even happier than I already was. I was looking forward to last nights food distribution, always the best antidote for a hectic week, to go out feeding on a Friday night. There was even a new volunteer among them who was introduced to me as a doctor but he immediately corrected apologetically, I am so sorry I may be out of touch as a doctor! Eh, I thought, he looked decent enough, so what was he talking about? Some six questions later he clarified, I am an orthopaedic surgeon so I may be somewhat rusty as a general practitioner, he smiled gently. Ah, that was his concern ... what a relief! 😆 So a happy group of Friday regulars busily yet efficiently managed a busload of UKM students and other new volunteers. There was a group of singers entertaining the crowd in front of Sony. Doctors Peter, Zia and Sham attended to the patients, assisted by KC, Kelly and Rachel. It was so humbling to watch everyone in action. Their eyes light up with happiness as they did their work, chatting and giggling away. All my weeks fatigue was gone in no time at all. I was even free enough to attend to a few cases which needed some assistance and advice. So thank you to all 73 volunteers who helped out last night. You served with kindness and made someone less hungry, less thirsty and less uncomfortable. It feels right, doesnt it?
