Friday 14th March 2014 Dear Parents and MKASS community, Firstly let me start by apologising for there being no communication last week due to my unexpected absence. The big event was the publication of the 2013 KCSE results which have now been analysed and discussed by both the Board and the Parents Advisory Committee (PAC) who met last Saturday in Nairobi. We were placed fourth in Nyeri Central and 63rd in the top 100 schools nationally. I offer my congratulations to all the successful pupils who performed admirably. The weekend before last we had our Form 4 Parents Consultation Day which was very well attended and productive for both parents and teachers based on feedback to date. Last weekend the Form 2’s went on a team building trip to the Batian’s view and they represented Mt. Kenya Senior School well. They were well behaved during the entire trip and their participation was commendable since they kept on trying, no matter how hard the activities seemed to be. All members who participated admitted to having learnt something new about themselves and important lessons like, how to be a team player, how to overcome challenges, every person has their strengths and weaknesses, the importance of supporting others and thinking outside the box. My thanks go to Ms Kamau and Mr Ngunjiri for having led this trip. Also last weekend was the Swimming Gala hosted by Makini School in Nairobi where a total of 14 schools participated. Our boys team finished third and our girls first, MKASS was ranked second overall with Makini School being overall winners. Students with outstanding performance were Simbolei Sambor in year 10 who had 20 points, Claire Kanina in Form 3 and Joy Waceke Year 10 each with 28 points. On Monday we hosted Nyeri Baptist School for soccer and handball fixture on our school grounds. Our Boys won their Football match by two goals to one and sadly both Handball games went the other way. Tomorrow is our Year 11 Careers Day which is set up to guide parents and students on the next steps following the completion of their IGCSE’s in June. This event will be hosted at school and start promptly at 10.00am. As an advance reminder we have our Thanksgiving Service a week on Sunday on the 23rd March at the Grace Chapel. We are asking everyone to seat themselves from 9.30 am so that we can start promptly at 10.00 am or just before and hope to finish by perhaps 12.00 as this is also our Visiting Day and parents can then spend the rest of the day together with their sons and/or daughters. We also welcome of course all of those Year 11 and Form 4’s from 2013 to this occasion. May God Bless Mount Kenya Academy. Yours sincerely Mr I. G. Stamp Principal/ Deputy Director
