Friday 23rd August Update from Thomas Cook UK website - Egypt situation Thomas Cook – Egypt Update We are monitoring the situation in Egypt closely and are in regular contact with the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) as well as with our own experienced teams in the country. We operate to the Red Sea tourist areas of Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada and these resorts remain unaffected and are operating as normal, with holidaymakers continuing to enjoy their holidays. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office currently has no restrictions in place for travel to the Red Sea resorts, although they do advise against travel to Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and Suez. Thomas Cook UK continues to operate its flying and holiday programme to the Red Sea but, whilst normal booking conditions apply, any holidaymakers with concerns about travel to Egypt can call to talk to us on our dedicated phone number: 01733 224 520 (calls charged at local rates). • The popular Red Sea resorts of Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada are a considerable distance from Cairo (400 km), equivalent to an eight hour drive • Our experienced teams on the ground have confirmed that no tourist areas have been further impacted and that holidaymakers are continuing to enjoy their holidays in Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada • We are operating some excursions in Hurghada as well as within the perimeter of Sharm el Sheikh. However, we’ve cancelled trips to Cairo, Luxor, Moses Mountain and St Catherine’s Monastery • The Foreign and Commonwealth Office are constantly reviewing their policy and updates can be found on their website fco.gov.uk (dfa.ie for customers from the Republic of Ireland) Thomas Cook has set up a dedicated phone line for any customers who have booked to travel to Egypt with Thomas Cook, or any of its companies and brands, and who may have any concerns: 01733 224 520 (calls charged at local rates) / or visit one of our Thomas Cook or Co-operative travel agents throughout the UK for further information.
