Friday April 13, 2012 I can vividly remember walking into the Med Center, being met by Mandy Arens and taken up to meet with Dr. Beck. Jeanine told me today she remembers the day we arrived and the exact room we were in. All the kids were there with us and the fear and anxiety we all had. I can still hear Dr. Beck tell me that yes we can cure this, but it will be at least 2 1/2 years of treatment. I remember the weekend of all the test and procedures and start of chemo. Wow, that day seems so long ago now but yet it still feels like yesterday. Today, we reached the end of chemotherapy and basically treatment. Last month was his last IV chemo treatment and tonight he will take his last oral chemo pills. So, what does a 17- year -old do with the empty pill bottles......yes, he takes them to the dirt pile and shoots all of them to mark the END of them. Thanks again to all our family and friends for being there for us and to our kids for being there to support Matt through all this. I absolutely love the relationship all of our kids share and it warms my heart at how close they have become! Monday is the start of football of Matts Senior Year and I would like to ask you to continue to pray for him that he not only stays healthy but injury free. Also a huge thank you to our Med Center family we have made some wonderful friends! We were talking with Rebecca the Nurse Practioner today about how Matt never had to be hospitalized for any fevers or infections when his counts were at 0 and she said thats unheard of, I just smile and know that it was God constantly watching over him and keeping his healthy along with all the people who were praying for him. Im sure if you ask Matt what the best thing about being done is....he will tell you....my mom not having to be on my case about taking my medicine! Thank you all again for your support! God is Good!!
