Friday, April 26, 2013 Be Prepared I had a couple things schedualed for today. My Gramma was coming to watch me workout, and Rob was coming over to help me stand at 12. I schedualed Rob to come over right at the end of my workout with Rosemary, so that way wed have Rosemary there already to help out. And that way too, my Gramma could see me standing. But first things first, she had to sit through my session with Rosemary! Rosemary had me start out with some arm-circles and a sobriety test. Then I did some warm-up leg lifts...first with the left leg, then with the right. Once the blood was flowing through my body, I did alternating leg lifts for 5 minutes. (Rosemary and I stopped counting the number of leg lifts, and now I just keep going for 3-5 minutes.) Then I leaned my chair all the way back for crunches. I did 4 sets of 50. I brought my chair back down to the normal sitting position and did another set of alternating leg lifts for 5 minutes. During my leg lifts, Rosemary and I started reminiscing Disney songs...specifically the Lion King soundtrack! (Scars song, Be Prepared!) And, if you remember, the Little Mermaid (one of my favorites) had to learn how to walk! Ariels my new inspiration! Rosemary then took off my arm rests and I did sit-ups/back hyper extensions. I think I did about 12, feeling my abs working as I brought myself forwards and back. After, I did a third set of alternating leg lifts for 5 minutes. We are trying to get my wrist to turn/flip over on the right side. My right hand is always clenched up/fingers closed in a fist whenever Im not thinking about it. And my right wrist just wont turn so palm is up. I can physically twist my wrist with my left hand, but as soon as I let go, my wrist flips back over. It has been decided that its neurological. So, what my PT and Rosemary have me doing was the next exercise that I did... I gripped a hammer-handle in different positions with my right hand. I am also holding it with my left hand, but I mainly alternate grips with my right hand. My PT told Rosemary and I that by practicing my grip repeatedly, my right hand would improve in its ability to move around and grab things. Lastly, Rosemary stretched my legs and ankles, and I stretched out my arms and shoulders. With that, Rob showed up and I went inside to put my back-brace on for standing! I continued my workout session for another hour and a half, and showed off my standing skills for my Gramma! Now Im looking forward to the relaxing weekend!
