Friday, August 1 PARTING SHOT... If there were any doubt that the CIA is out of control, look what happened yesterday: the Director of the CIA apologized for spying on members of the Senate Intelligence Committee. That has never happened in the history of U.S. intelligence agencies. We remember what happened. Last year, staffers for the Senate Intelligence Committee, working on a special committee investigation, went to CIA headquarters to review top secret files. Later, the agency accused them of viewing certain documents which, according to the CIA, they had no right to see. That’s when staffers realized the CIA must have hacked into their computers – and was spying on them. Yes, spying on the committee they report to in Congress. The CIA denied it vociferously. Until yesterday, when CIA Director John Brennan admitted they were spying on their oversight committee, apologized, and promised not to do it ever again. But why should we believe him? Clearly, it’s time for President Obama to crack down on our intelligence agencies: Fire John Brennan at the CIA. And put tough, new limits on both the CIA and NSA. They are both out of control. That’s my parting shot for today. I’m Bill Press.
