Friday August 2, 2013. Luke 6:11, But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus. Lord Jesus, speak to me this morning. As I meditate on this verse this morning the thought that comes to mind is gossip. The phrase, “filled with fury and discussed” is another way of saying “they gossiped”. Gossip never builds people up, it always tears down. Merriam-Webster dictionary defined gossip as, “information about the behavior and personal lives of other people.” The adjective most often used with gossip is juicy. “Juicy gossip” is not a phrase used to praise someone. I can kind of hear them now. “Did you hear what he said? How could he ask US something like that? And then did you see what he just did? How can he do that on the Sabbath? We are going to have to do something about this. He is going to destroy everything we have worked for.” I can imagine something like that going on. It makes me think back in my past to an old phrase that says; “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” My Aunt used to say that all the time. Father, help me to focus on the positive in all things. I want to be one who builds up and not one who tears down. Amen.
