Friday, August 2 Nehemiah 7:73b—8:6 GATHERING TO HEAR GOD’S WORD So … Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all who were able to understand. Nehemiah 7:2, NIV We have here an account of a solemn religious congregation, and the good work that was done in that assembly, to the honour of God and the edification of the people of God. The people were not forced to come, but they voluntarily gathered themselves together as one body. The purpose was to listen to God and the coordinator of the assembly was Ezra, the priest. Hence, we can conclude that the Word of God commands attention and deserves being listened to by all followers of Christ. As we come together to worship God, let us come with a receptive mind and be determined to obey the commands of God. Pray that the Lord will help you to live in accordance with His teachings and help preachers to preach the truth that will benefit their congregation.
