Friday, August 22 2014 Result: Ramshackle - 3rd Dansili x Purissima / Bay Filly 26/1/11 Form: 53 Sir Michael Stoute / Hayley Turner 2:55 - Ffos Las - Maiden - 8f I have mixed feelings regarding this result as on the one hand I thought Ramshackle would win and on the other she has run well off a four month break. The Dansili filly was handy throughout and although she was still going well coming down to the final two she couldnt find the chance of pace needed to fend off the challenge of two more experienced winner and runner-up; providing there are no ill effects from this she ought to be winning a maiden soon enough. Result: Dancetrack - 5th First Defence x Jazz Drummer / Bay Colt 24/4/12 Form: 5 Charlie Hills / Robert Tart 3:20 - Newmarket - Maiden - 7f There was a lot to like about this effort from Dancetrack. The son of First Defence was a little sleepy at the start and was settled in rear as a result; he had to bide his time when he really wanted to be making his move racing up the hill but once he found daylight he stayed on strongly to finish a fast finishing fifth; he is bound to come on plenty from this experience and he certainly has enough about him to win a maiden. Result: Recently Acquired - 6th Beat Hollow x Acquisition / Bay Colt 5/2/12 Form: 6 Lady Cecil / Chris Catlin 3:20 - Newmarket - Maiden - 7f Likewise, this was an excellent effort from Recently Acquired. The Derby entered son of Beat Hollow was also held up in the early stages and it was only coming up the hill late on that he managed to find his stride, staying on steadily for a promising debut; he is bred to appreciate a much stiffer test of stamina and I would imagine hell only come in to his own once he gets a proper test. Result: Dissolution - 5th New Approach x Portodora / Bay Colt 14/5/12 Form: 55 Sir Michael Stoute / James Doyle 4:20 - York - Maiden - 7f I dont think well see Dissolution over this trip again. Right from the very start the son of New Approach needed pushing along to keep up with the leaders and at one point he looked as though he was going to finish nearer last than first but then he got a second wind and stayed on under pressure to pass beaten horses; he already needs a mile and I would be shocked if he wasnt racing over that trip if we see him again this year. Result: Hiking - 2nd First Defence x Trekking / Bay Filly 23/3/11 Form: 112-9172 Roger Charlton / Richard Kingscote 6:45 - Goodwood - Handicap C3 - 8f This was a fabulous effort in defeat from Hiking. The daughter of First Defence was in front from the off and attempted to make every yard of the running which looked likely entering the final furlong but she was running out of steam as the eventual winner, Saucy Minx, was hitting top gear and in the end the Juddmonte filly had no answers to the late challenge; shell be winning again soon if this effort is anything to go by.
