Friday Book Club! Speaking of books, those of you who use Amazon, what do you think of the just-announced Kindle Unlimited? 9.99/month for borrowing as many books as you want, within the program, no more than 10 at a time, and you have to return them to check out more, from what I understand. (Kind of like a paid library ebook program, but I believe without the waits that occur with library programs sometimes??) Is it something you think you would use ever? My Kensington books are on there (Chocolate Thief, Kiss, Touch, Heart, and I assume the novellas In Kiss the Bride and A Rose in Winter), but I wont be putting my self-published books on there right now because they require an exclusivity for self-published books in this program. (I would have to make them unavailable to Nook, Apple, Google, Kobo readers, which Im very reluctant to do. Also maybe even the print versions would have to go?? Im not sure about that.) Besides new ways to access books, what else is going on in your reading life? What are you reading? I just semi-finished an urban fantasy book that will remain unnamed because it came SO recommended from so many people, and I REALLY disliked it. I was astonished how mediocre I found it in fact, given the people who had recommended it. Although, I am so fussy that really that happens to me all the time. Then I check and see it has 500 5-star reviews and I am the ONLY person in the whole world saying, But...the characterization was completely inconsistent and lame. Nothing happened. The writing was pedestrian. The world-building made no sense. But...everyone else is raving about it...why am I so weird? How often does that happen to you, that so many people love a book and you just dont get it? Do you get frustrated when it does (like you want to convince everyone else how wrong they are about the book)? Or do you just shrug? Are you a very particular reader, or do you often enjoy books that others recommend? What would you recommend to this frustrated reader? Any new books you are loving? Anything youre looking forward to this weekend?
