Friday Feline fact: The oldest cat video on record dates from 1894 over a century before YouTube and its millions of cat videos. Called The Boxing Cats, this footage was one of the earliest productions of Thomas Edisons Black Maria movie studio. At the time, it would have been viewed using a Kinetoscope, a device that scrolled a perforated strip of still images in front of a light source to convey the illusion of motion. This 23-second sequence is likely to be the oldest cat video of all time (Technically, Edisons footage wasnt originally a video because it was recorded with motion picture rather than electronic technology. Only later were the frames projected and re-recorded on video). It is now on YouTube of course!
