Friday Focus: How We Approach Money A considerable amount is said in Scripture about money and how we ought to put it to use. The apostles, prophets, and even Jesus provided insight on how we should view, spend, and use money. Tucked away in the middle of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:19-24) Jesus preaches on the topic of money by showing us that we cannot serve both God and money. If we don’t look at money the right way it has the ability to overrun our lives. If we view money the wrong way we may be tempted to forego worship in order to get more money working overtime. With a wrong view of money we may compromise on giving to help others in need, by buying that video game or car we really want. If we view money the wrong way it will become our master usurping Jesus’ lordship in our life. So how should we approach money? Jesus provides the answer. We must think about (heart; 6:19-21), look at (eyes; 6:22-23), and use (hands; 6:24) our money for God’s glory. Pursue heaven over wealth, look at money as gift, not as a god, and give generously to those who need help.
