Friday, July 12, 2013 will remain green in the lives of Ukanafun stakeholders as the gathered at the renovated local government banquet hall to celebrate one year of purposeful leadership of Apostle Sylvester Jobson Udokang. The epoch making event had in attendance who is who in Ukanafun politics including past and present political appointees, administrators, top government officials from the area, captain of industries, leaders of socio-political organization, leaders of youth groups and as well as clergymen of Ukanafun origin.Addressing the stakeholders, Apostle Udokang said the meeting was significant in many ways. First, Ukanafun elders and stakeholders had not gathered together for a long time to brainstorm on common issues that affect the people of the area, thus the need to bring back the spirit of brotherliness that Ukanafun people are noted for.Moreover, Apostle Udokang said, the meeting was to thank them for their support they made to ensure his emergence as chairman and present his score card while soliciting positive contributions from them on how to move the council forward.Presenting score card of the 365 days in office, Apostle Udokang said his administration embarked on massive grading of rural roads and in all the eleven wards in the area, reconnection of electricity to the national grid, reconstruction, renovation and provision of equipment at the local government secretariat and the banquet hall. He said that the infrastructure in the area was deliberate, aimed at repositioning the local government area for development and growth.The council boss informed the stakeholders that the state of infrastructural decay especially at the council secretariat and guest houses that were once the pride of Ukanafun people, lack electricity for over four years challenged him to first focus on renovation rather then embarked on new ones. He recalled that the banquet hall was where elders of Ukanafun used to meet to discuss issues of well being of t he people but regretted that the place was left to suffer monumental decay, thus the refurbishment it was part of effort to transform the area.The council chief executive further disclosed that the provision of the electricity, grading of rural roads has boosted commercial activities among the people while the construction of Ikot Ubo, Nsekhe, Ikot Akpa Nkuk road by Governor Godswill Akpabio would go a long way in enhancing socio-economic wellbeing of entire Ukanafun people.Unfolding more plans he has for the people, Apostle Udokang said his administration would soon embark on modernization of Akpan Assiek market and provision of standard stadium to boost sporting activities and youth development. He assured youth empowerment would also form cardinal priority of his administration.He expressed happiness on the governor Akpabio’s strides in touching the lives of Ukanafun people positively, adding that his administration is also keying into that and called for continued support to the governor and that of his administration for more dividends.
