Friday July, 18th Full Results Article by Rob Keller Fries/Perigo win again at Path Valley Andy Fries and Carmen Perigo have become the drivers to beat in the Late Model and Wingless Super Sportsman divisions at Path Valley Speedway in 2014. Friday night they both continued their winning ways. The first feature on the card was the Super Stocks. Bill Powell led the field to the green flag with Alex Boozel second and Brad McGinnis third. Powell took the lead at the start with Boozel and McGinnis in close pursuit. On lap three Boozel made a move to the inside of Powell going down the backstretch. Boozel could not hold the bottom line entering turn three, sliding high in front of Powell. McGinnis seized the opportunity, driving low thru turns three and four and going from third to first. That proved to be the winning move as McGinnis led the last eighteen laps, winning his first race back after missing several weeks with a blown engine. Boozel finished second, Powell third, Austin Johnson fourth, and Shawn Shoemaker fifth. Boozel won the heat race. D.J. Keefer led the first fourteen laps of the seven-car 4-Cylinder Thunder Car feature. On lap fifteen Keefer lost the lead to Tony Hampton, and then was forced to the pits with engine trouble. Hampton led the way the final six laps to score the win. Justin Rasp and Kyle Martin were right behind Hampton, finishing second and third. Austin Gelwick, racing for the first time ever, stayed out of trouble and finished fourth. Charlie Stallman rounded out the top five. Rasp was the heat race winner. The six-race series for the Wingless Super Sportsman has turned into the personal playground for Carmen Perigo and the Walt Bigler owned racing team. In Perigos previous two wins he was forced to come up through the field to take the lead in the final laps. Friday night Perigo changed the storyline, starting first and leading all twenty-five laps, giving him three wins and a second place finish in the four races so far. Rick Barr posted a solid second place finish, finishing ahead of Doug Dodson, Bob Gutshall, and Duaine Smith. Gutshall started last in the twelve-car field and his fourth place finished earned him the Hard Charger award. Heat race checkers went to Joey Biasi and Rick Barr. Andy Fries has always been a threat to win every time he shows up to race in the Late Model division at Path Valley Speedway. This season Fries has stepped up his game and has become the man to beat. This week followed the same script as most of his previous wins. Most of the other drivers are jockeying for position in the low groove when Fries finds the traction he needs in the top groove and drives around the competition using the long way around. Todd Snook was leading from the start until Fries caught him and drove around him in turns one and two on lap ten. Fries then pulled away to a comfortable lead to earn his sixth win at Path Valley this year, and third in a row. Snook finished second, followed closely by Steve Bailor and Wes Bonebrake in third and fourth. Brad Kling completed the top five. Bonebrake and Fries were the heat race winners. The Mini Stock feature was the last to run. Jeremy Ott started first and took the early lead, followed closely by Kevin Thomas. Ott pulled out to about a two car length advantage and then maintained that advantage until the only caution of the event came out with three laps to go. For the restart it was Ott leading Thomas and Chris Anderson in third. When the green came back out the top three played bumper tag in the first two corners, but then Ott was able to put a car length between himself and Thomas and that is how they stayed until the finish. Ott and Thomas were first and second, followed by Anderson, Barry Welch, and Mark Grove. Heat race wins went to Anderson and Thomas.
