Friday, July 25 Full Results: Article by Rob Keller Bonebrake ends Fries streak While Andy Fries was winning three straight Late Model features Wes Bonebrake has endured a month he would just as soon forget. Friday night Bonebrake put his past issues behind him and stopped Fries winning streak at three. The 4-Cylinder Thunder Cars got the evening under way. D.J. Keefer returned to action back in his own car this time. Keefer won the heat race, started on the front row of the feature, and led all twenty laps to claim the win. Tony Hampton stayed within two car lengths of Keefer until tangling with a car he was trying to put a lap down. Hampton went to the pit area but returned and drove his way back up to finish third. Kyle Martin finished second with Brandon Seibert fourth and Ronnie Garlock, driving Charlie Stallmans car, in fifth. Bill Kennedy started second in the Mini Stock feature and beat pole-sitter Jason Stoner to take the lead on lap one. Kennedy was showing the way while Shaine Sixeas was working his way forward after starting in row three. Sixeas seemed to be the only driver that could find traction in the bottom line, staying low in the corners and out accelerating his competition out of the corners. Sixeas caught up to Kennedy and made the winning pass on lap eight, after which he was not challenged to score his third win at Path Valley this season. Kennedy and Stoner finished second and third followed by Mark Grove and Barry Welch. Kennedy and Stoner were the heat race winners. Wes Bonebrake was going through a bit of a slump, not getting the finishes he is accustomed to running in the Late Models at Path Valley. At the same time Andy Fries has been on a tear, winning a total of six features in 2014 including the last three in a row. When the inversion for the feature starting lineup gave Bonebrake the pole-position he knew it was a good opportunity to change his luck. Steve Bailor started second, and was able to lead lap one using the high groove. Bonebrake stormed back running his favorite line, down low through the corners and regained the lead on lap two. Andy Fries moved past Bailor a few laps later and the chase was on. Five cautions in the first eleven laps kept the field bunched together, but also kept the drivers from getting any rhythm going. On each restart Fries would try to go high into turn one only to lose ground to Bonebrake as they swept through the turns. Bonebrake turned out to be too much for Fries on this night, leading the final twenty-four laps to take the checkered flag. Bailor held off a late charge by Tim Snare to finish third and Brad Kling completed the top five. The heat race checkers went to Kling and Fries. The Super Stock feature was next, and those drivers proved again to be some of the most entertaining racing Path Valley provides. Bill Powell started on the front row and set the early pace. Right behind Powell the struggle for second was side-by-side between Brad McGinnis and Shawn Shoemaker with Alex Boozel right behind those two. McGinnis took control of second and made an attempted pass for the lead in turn one, but he made contact with Powell which turned his car sideways right in front of Boozel. Boozel stood on the brake pedal quick enough to keep the contact minimal and both drivers kept their cars heading in the right direction. Powell was leading using the middle groove and Shoemaker close behind using the high groove. McGinnis began to close the gap on the two leaders running the low groove, passing Shoemaker for second just past the halfway mark and then working past Powell and into the lead on lap thirteen. From there McGinnis pulled away from the field, scoring his second win in as many weeks. Powell held on to second while Boozel passed Shoemaker in the closing laps to finish third. Austin Johnson finished fifth, but refused technical inspection, so he was disqualified, moving Troy Eckenrode to fifth. Powell was the heat race winner. Garrett Watkins won the heat race and led all twenty laps to win the Strictly Stock feature. Glen Wilson outlasted a game of bumper tag with Steven Jacobs to finish second.
