Friday Morning Prayer - Self Deception - James 1:22 How well do you know yourself? A recent study from Cornell Univ. revealed that most people have a relatively good grasp of assessing others. They observe their actions & generally can detect much about their nature and character. They often can tell if others r trustworthy, honest, & sincere. Yet da study found that most people r “unrealistic” about their understanding of themselves. In fact, the authors of this study concluded that “people consistently overestimate themselves.” They “spin stories” that help them excuse their “past transgressions” and instead “focus on the good things they have done.” Then they put “too much stock” in themselves, while being too harsh in judging others. This was a tendency James recognized. He said many many Christians “merely listen to the word.” Such people read the Bible and go to church, but they lack a dynamic relationship with God. In fact, many do not realize what they are doing, and actually deceive themselves. He compared this to a “man who looks at his natural face in a mirror.” Once he goes away, he immediately forgets “what kind of person he was.” The key, James said, was being a doer of the Word. Not just knowing what the Bible says, but applying this Word in our lives: our relationships & finances…our diet and wardrobes ...& in our businesses, our homes, and our churches. Today, remember that God’s Word has real power. His promises can transform your life. You can learn these promises by reading and studying the Bible. As you read, look for promises. Study them. Confess them. Believe that they true for you. Let Gods word change your life, attitude, actions, habits & relationships! Be a doer of the Word! God will pour out His blessings on You. Love ya!
