Friday, November 1st, 2013: DAY 214 LOVE IS HARD TO OFFEND Why not rather put up with injustice? Why not rather be cheated?~ 1 Corinthians 6:7 In most marital difficulties, theres usually enough blame to go around. But we can plant ourselves so deeply on our side of an argument that were not willing to do much in the way of compromise. To give in is to accept defeat. And weve got too much pride invested to back down now. Obviously, some situations can escalate to a level of fear and violence that warrant removing yourself from danger. But in most cases, whats the worst that could happen if you decided to be the first one to give in? What if instead of trying to win your point, you just took one for the team? Being wronged is better than doing wrong. What do you think your spouse would do if you shouldered your part of the blame, forgave them for theirs, and agreed to start again? Dead people are hard to offend, and so are those who die to self, those who make a habit of overlooking their mates mistakes and letting God take responsibility for being their defender. Deny your right to hold your spouse in judgement. Lay down your arms, and wait on the Lord. PRAYER: Jesus, help us to love and forgive, no matter the issue. Convict us when needed, and give us tender hearts toward You. Build in us a faithful commitment to You and to each other. In Your name, amen.
