Friday/Saturday updates on Emma Johnson- Friday night, March 21 Mar 21, 2014 10:48 PM Our princess is growing up more and more everyday and progressing so wonderfully!! Emma completed her first day of all day rehab all by herself!! When her daddy left her this morning she did much better than her daddy!! He shed a few tears as he left his sweet girl for the first time in 80 days!! She was so happy all day long the therapist told Lisa. She did so good walking and climbing the stairs. She also did very good on the balancing activities. Eating with the speech therapist was not as good as it has been at home; but she has been eating very good at home. During OT she did the peg board. She did really good. This is a first for her as her fingers are beginning to work better. So exciting and such answered prayers as she is beginning to gain function of so many different body parts now. Emma had a great surprise today as she got reunited with Jenni who was one of her therapist when she was at the hospital and left for 3 weeks for medical leave. They were both excited to see each other and Jenni was thrilled at the progress our princess has made since she saw her last. The last activity they worked on was reaching and grasping. They are really impressed at how this has been improving. This weeks miracle has been our precious princess coming home from the hospital after 78 days and now already making great achievements. She is opening doors at home and playing with UNO cards and initiating a lot of the motion without being asked. Later in the evening she was leaning over petting her dog Aurora while they were watching a movie. Her hands have made huge strides this week. We are praising the Lord for this and for everything else He has helped her with this week!! I want to do a direct quote to end our update tonight. The words David typed touched my heart so that I wanted you all to hear them in his exact words!!! Had a great day. God a tubby about an hour ago and we are all finishing a movie together all 4 of us in the den. Such simple pleasures that we use to take for granted. Not anymore!! PSALM 16:8-11 I KNOW THE LORD IS ALWAYS WITH ME. I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN, FOR HE IS RIGHT BESIDE ME. NO WONDER MY HEART IS GLAD, AND I REJOICE. MY BODY RESTS IN SAFETY. FOR YOU WILL NOT LEAVE MY SOUL AMONG THE DEAD OR ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO ROT IN THE GRAVE. YOU WILL SHOW ME THE WAY OF LIFE, GRANTING ME THE JOY OF YOUR PRESENCE AND THE PLEASURES OF LIVING WITH YOUR FOREVER. Thank you all for your prayers. They are being answered in the most awesome ways. ----------- Saturday night, March 22 Mar 22, 2014 10:50 PM What makes a princess as happy as she can be? Riding her horse for an hour and a half!! Yes, our princess was right at home in her kingdom as she mounted her horse, and with the assistance of her mom and dad, rode her precious Copper. David and Lisa said this morning that they were all outside feeding and brushing horses and Emma just seemed so ill and agitated. They took her back inside but that didnt seem to help either. So they decided to fix her saddle and put a helmet on her and let her take Copper for a ride with them walking beside her. After a little bit they decided to take her off of Copper and she began to cry, one of those sad lip quivering cries, so they put her back on the saddle and over an hour later they were still riding all over the pasture. David sent me several pictures and she looked so completely happy and full of joy!! And the best part is while she was riding she used her hand and fingers . She held the horn of the saddle and held the reins in the other hands and pulled back in them to back Copper up. Praise the Lord!! This means her memory of how to control her horse is still there and Copper is great therapy for her; motivating her to use her hands and fingers. God is so good. Tonight Emma had a wonderful surprise!!! Our family( and I do mean our whole family) Kirk and I, Lauren and Jimmy, Drew and Heidi, our other children, David and Maureen, and memommy and dedaddy all piled in to visit our princess. We had a huge cookout with Kirk grilling burgers and hot dogs and Heidi cooking chocolate chips cookies. We had the best time. Emma was so excited to see everyone one. She had not seen Drew in so long. Last time Drew visited her she was still in the PICU at Egelston. Having to live so far away and not come home he has kept up with her progress through pictures we send and the things we tell him. He was so glad to see for himself the improvements she has made. Our princess was chattering, laughing and hugging everyone. We all sat outside on David and Lisas front porch as Kirk grilled and David held Emma in her lap. She held onto Heidis hand, smiled and looked so happy. I took a step back and looked at our whole family gathered together. It is one of those mental pictures you take that you just never forget. I am afraid that I use to take our family gatherings for granted. Not anymore. I am thankful for each and every one of them now. We praise God for every moment we have now. Our little princess has given us a new appreciation for so many things in life. We thank God for all the eye opening experiences He has given us. As Emma was sitting on the floor tonight watching a movie Lauren and I were sitting with her and Lisa. All the sudden she put her head down and reached her hands up to her face and scratched her eyes and nose. It was so cute. She is just absolutely the most precious princess. It is these little things that Emma does every day that let us see God so mightily at work healing her sweet body. I will close with these verses of restoration. Our God is a God of restoration in every part of our body and soul. PSALM 51:10-12 CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART, O GOD. RENEW A LOYAL SPIRIT WITHIN ME. DO NOT BANISH ME FROM YOUR PRESENCE, AND DONT TAKE YOUR HOLY SPIRIT FROM ME. RESTORE TO ME THE JOY OF YOUR SALVATION, AND MAKE ME WILLING TO OBEY YOU.
