Friday September 5, 2014 The story about not putting new wine into old wineskins is told in images with which we are really not familiar, but it is not foreign in its meaning. The invitation to change is universal. We have to be willing to let go of some of our old ways of seeing and understanding in order to be able to grow. Is our image of God the same as it was when we were children? Do we understand sin in the same way we did when we went to confession with a laundry list? Do we allow advances in science, psychology, and spirituality to enhance our understanding of God and our relationship to God? Do we do the same with our growing knowledge of the universe? Our old wineskins can be a hindrance to growth – how can we search out new ones so that we can be vessels of God’s love and goodness to others? Pat Klemm, OSF
