Friday Sermon (Jummah Khutbah) 16-01-2015: DANGER OF COMMITTING SINS IN THE NAME OF ALLAH MOST GRACIOUS MOST MERCIFUL AN - NOOR MASJID, ICICE, WUSE II, ABUJA Jum’at Khutbah Translation, 25th Rabi Al-Awwal, 1436H equivalent to 16th January, 2015 DANGER OF COMMITTING SINS Praise be to Allah, we praise Him, and we ask Him for guidance and forgiveness, and we seek protection in Allah from the malice of our own souls, and the evil of our actions. Whom Allah guides, no one can lead astray, and whom He makes astray no one can guide him back to the right path. I bear witness that there is no other deity but Allah, by Himself, no associate to Him, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. The heart of a faithful believer is alive because of his obedience to Allah. Similarly, the heart of an unbeliever is dead because of his disobedience. Allah says in the glorious Qur’an: “They are dead not alive” (Qur’an 16:21) Human age is no longer insignificant if he doesn’t live in accordance with Allah’s commandment. If a believer engages in committing atrocities, he has indeed wasted his life which he could have earn reward for. That day he will say “Oh! I wish I had sent forth (good deeds) for my life” (Quran 89:25) Whoever abstains from committing evil deeds will surely earn happiness in this world and the hereafter. However, pain and torment awaits anyone who angered his lord by committing sins. Dear Muslims. Certainly committing sin is dangerous. Its effects manifest in the society by attracting calamities whereas the bounties diminishes. As a result of sin committed by a sinner he finds difficulty in everything he intends to pursue. Similarly, committing sin prevents him from getting rich, his age will end up unblessed and those that praise him will eventually become who will blame him. Obedience to Allah Is the utmost protection a believer will enjoy from Allah while a believer that disobeys him will certainly became fearful at all times. Allah says in the glorious Quran: “whosoever desires honour (power and glory) then to Allah belong all honour, power and glory. (Qur’an 35:10). Souls would be exalted in degree by obeying the commandment of Allah. Similarly, they will be disgraced and humiliated by disobeying Allah. Allah says in the Quran “Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger will be among most humiliated.” (Quran 58:20). Sheikh Hassanul Basri (may Allah have mercy upon him) rightly opined that Allah will humiliate whoever disobeys Him. Sin is indeed sickness whenever it become rampant it causes destruction. Ibn Mas’ud said “whenever fornication and usury became rampant in a community Allah will order for it to be destroyed.” Whatever you see evils of this world it is as a result of sins and atrocities committed. Allah says in the Qur’an “And whatever of misfortunes befalls you, it is because of what your hands earned”(Qur’an 35:45) Dear Muslims. People have misunderstood the dangerous effect of sin because they couldn’t see it at that moment. Allah says “whoever works evil will have the recompense thereof and he will not find any protector or helper beside Allah “(Qur’an 4:123) Satan was cursed because of prostration which he refused to do. Prophet Adam was sent out of paradise because of something he ate. A women entered hell-fire because of a cat she deliberately detained. Don’t ever feel comfortable with the punishment set aside for sinners. Whenever sin became insignificant in the sight of a believer it became great in the sight of Allah. Sin doesn’t mean committing major evil. It encompasses absconding from major obligation. When a believer fail to call to the way of Allah or fail to enjoin good and forbids evil or a father fail to discharge his responsibility they all commit sin. Dear Muslims. Signs of warning have since surfaced, eclipse of the sun, poverty, sicknesses, earthquakes, wars are all lessons and reminders. Allah said in the Qur’an “How many a town (community) have We destroyed and raise up after them another people.” (Qur’an 21:11). Allah says again “And such is the seizure of your lord when he seizes the (population of) the towns when they are doing the wrong, verily His seizure is painful and severe. (Qur’an 11:102). Prophet Muhammad said “Whenever an arrogant servant died; servants, towns, trees and animals will have rest” transmitted by Muslim However, Muslim should always associate himself with people of credible character (righteous ones) and abstain from unrighteous people. Allah says in the Qur’an “And your lord will never destroy towns wrongfully while their people were right doers” (QUR’AN 11:117).
