Friday Update Wow! Another productive day at Project Pilon. Today seemed to be Quest Elementary Day, with students, teachers, retirees and friends of Quest hard at work all day. We started with breakfast delivery by Paige Langswager of coffee and bagels from Breuggers. Home Depot Mike and John were waiting to get started when I arrived. Remember folks, these Home Depot volunteers are coming in from Penn Yan to help us. We also had a repeat appearance by HD Greg and daughter Skye. Psst… they are impressed with our pool of volunteers and thrilled to meet all of our painting, carpentry, plumbing, woodworking and renovation pros. We had over 30 community volunteers assisting us today, with many calling, texting or stopping by to see how they could help. I’ll get to next week’s tasks later. Nick Hardie returned for another go at the kitchen. I love a volunteer who carries their own tools to the job. Rick and Jacob Balzano were back in action and I have to say Jacob (nephew of Leslie V) gets the Volunteer of the Day award. He was moving boxes, carrying items, sanding floors, cleaning, and working all day alongside his dad. I didn’t catch the names of the guys from CM Roofing who were up on the roof finishing up some details. It warms my heart to hear everyone’s connection to the Pilon family – this community is weaving the most beautiful fabric. Tonya Melrose led our Quest families in prepping the bedrooms for some TLC and makeover. I got a peek at the room colors and know some of the style ideas she has working. It’s going to be a fantastic Reveal! The Paxton-Johnson family, Carpenter clan, Beth Meeker, Tydings, Reynolds, Conolly and Melrose families spent the day moving boxes, breaking down beds, prepping the porch for sanding, pulling staples, prepping the second floor for painting. We got work done with prepping the kitchen, the downstairs bathroom is looking sharp, and the dumpster is almost full. A shout out to Matthew Reynolds, our pool boy for the day and Lisa Tydings for the run for soda. We will be well caffeinated for this project. The Conolly family had stopped by to take some photographs and next thing they knew they were pulling staples out of Grandpa’s room floor. Michelle Barton and Patti Sullivan swung by, ready to lend a hand. We had a wonderful visit and lunch provided by Nancy & Jim Johnstone. Thank you to Jo’s Diner. Whew! So, the plan is Saturday 9-1 for some more floor sanding, stairwell cleaning/sanding and yard work. Remember, there will be a delish lunch. On tap for Monday, the paint will arrive for the upstairs bedrooms. We will need to prime and paint up there. We are following up some leads on carpeting/flooring for the second floor bedrooms so stay tuned! Hopefully early in the week we will have ceiling work completed so we can get going on the painting.
