Friday began with such a wonder! The tour of the stone-masons work, and the repairs and replacement of the East window of York Minster remains the highlight of our York experience for me! After we came down, we were able to chat with the stone masons and carvers who have been working on the replacement carvings and stones. We met the carver who has made four of the new grotesques we saw on the tower. The theme was medieval afflictions and complaints, so there are a lot of grimaces and humorous poses up there! The best thing for me was that I was able to have a try at carving the stone! It was a fantastic experience to carve a piece of the same stone as they are using on the Minster. I made a curve of a letter O. The carver said I did very well. Curves are harder than straight lines. It felt exciting. Much different than wood or candles! I could have stayed all day... We then went to the museum, tge gardens and St. Marys Abbey in ruins! What a lovely day!
