Friday in South Charleston my cup ranneth over. Even though the trip was quite last-minute planned, got to visit with and introduce my son Dan Weese to several of my salt-of-the-earth treasures--my childhood friends. And was proud for them to meet him as well. After his uptown meeting in Charleston (Do people still call it uptown?), we went to pick up Eugenia Williams (Perez) at her moms in Rock Lake Village to go to lunch. Also got to see Ana, her sister, and their precious mom. Thanks for the great lunch, Eugenia! Next was a brief bit of shopping (Im not a shopper by choice.) and giving Dan a tour of my old stomping grounds and home places (Pence Street, Pine Drive on the hill in Davis Creek and the only one he knew--Valley Drive) with documentary script along with the sites. Forgot about showing him the first place we lived in SC--the red brick duplex on Highland Avenue--a stop for next time. Then met up with Debbie Surbaugh Harris at a Mexican restaurant in South Ridge. Before she arrived, a surprise run-into with Becky Deitzler Flaherty and her husband Paul. What a nice bonus. Debbie was kind to rearrange some babysitting-of-her-grands plans so we could catch up. Shed met Dan when he was a little one. Were planning a longer, more relaxed visit soon. And last that day, but never, ever least was a stop to see a best guy bud--James Freeman Petey. Hes such a multi-talent--computer expert, musician, camping aficionado, raconteur, etc. He and Danny really hit it off. Dan, of course, thinks Im totally NOT cool, so hoped meeting Petey would give me some cool points by association. And got to meet Peteys adorable twin, three-year-old nephews. Was a whirlwind packed with much love, fun, memories old and making new. Im blessed with many more treasures in SoChas--you all know who you are.
