Friday in suburban Seattle, Marysville-Pilchuck High was rocked by - TopicsExpress

Friday in suburban Seattle, Marysville-Pilchuck High was rocked by another school shooting. Freshman Jaylen Fryberg pulled a gun in the cafeteria and opened fire, killing one person and injuring four others, including two of his cousins, before turning the gun on himself. None of these attacks make any rational sense, but this one was even more baffling than most. As far as anyone knows, Fryberg wasn’t a troubled teen or a bullying victim. Classmates and teachers described him as a popular kid from a prominent, loving family in the local Indian tribal community. He was on the football team, and was crowned freshman class homecoming prince. People who’d known him all his life said he was a happy kid. A friend who saw him just before the shooting said he didn’t seem upset at all. He’d reportedly argued with another boy over a girl, but that hardly seems like a motive for mass murder. Next week, Washington state voters will weigh in on two proposed new gun control laws, one of them expanding background checks. But this story is more tragic proof that you can pass all the laws in the world, but you can never know what’s happening inside someone else’s head.
