The jury heard from a longtime friend of Paynes, an FBI forensics examiner, police officers and neighbors in the Quarry Apartments where the murder happened. This witness also stated just a few minutes later, Payne said he was joking about it. After this mornings witnesses, Payne voluntarily excused himself and was taken back to the North Central Regional Jail. This afternoon, a forensic examiner from the FBI headquarters in Quantico walked the jury and the court through the process of comparing footprints in the snow at the apartment to shoes belonging to Payne, and say a pair of black Timberland boots taken from Payne, out of three pairs of shoes, could have been the ones that left prints at the crime scene. Now, the prosecution plans to wrap up its case on Monday, and the trial will continue on Wednesday after the Veterans Day holiday.
