Friday morning arrived with powerful winds sweeping the savannah - TopicsExpress

Friday morning arrived with powerful winds sweeping the savannah and requiring the cancellation of the scheduled game drive. We did get an afternoon drive, however, during which we spotted a few animals, including this rather elegant looking zebra grazing on new-grown grass and the cheetah brothers, huddling together for mutual warmth and protection. Most of us here are still commenting on the peculiar fact that while the calendar insists that it is summer in South Africa that we continue to have to bundle up in every warm layer we have before hopping on the open-air game trucks. As of last week I am on the Research & Conservation team which means that in addition to going on game drives, counting animals, and recording certain behaviors, I also have an RTP, or Research Task Project. I have completed one: developing a computer presentation and handout describing the proper use of the telemetry equipment. This, of course, is something I very much enjoy doing, and it also allowed me to find a good use for my lion picture wearing an ugly telemetry collar! After a couple of days at Ghost Mountain Inn (good food, decent internet!) Ill continue work on my next presentation and handout on using the GPS system. Cant wait!
