Friday randomness..... 1. People born in the years 1957, 1968, 1979, 1989, 2000, and 2013 will live an average of 5.2 years less than other people . . . thanks to peaks in solar activity those years. Apparently the UV radiation from the solar rays affects growth during pregnancy. And people born in 1954, 1964, 1976, 1986, 1996, and 2008 should live the longest, thanks to being born during periods of lower solar activity. 2. Theres an Aboriginal language in Australia called Mbabaram where the word for dog is dog. Its a pure coincidence . . . they didnt know it was called a dog in English, thats just the word they randomly chose themselves. 3. The first webcam was set up at the University of Cambridge in England in 1991, and was pointed at the coffee pot outside a computer lab . . . so people would know whether it was worth the trip out there to try to get coffee. 4. Tiny flies pollinate cocoa trees . . . so without flies, there wouldnt be chocolate. 5. The town of Green Bank, West Virginia banned cell phones and wi-fi because of an extremely sensitive government telescope. And thats made it a mecca for people who are sensitive to electromagnetic waves.
