Friday so must be sound off day - stop reading now if you are one of my Yes supporting friends who think our independence campaign can do no wrong. First up - well done Scotland, what a fantastic week. In the Commonwealth Games we took 10 medals, 4 of them Gold, on the opening day - superb. Meanwhile our much-maligned Premiership football clubs have also done us proud on the European stage, brilliant performances from Celtic, Motherwell, Aberdeen and St Johnstone see all four progress. Now two points from the Yes campaign. Found myself nodding in agreement with a letter in the NS this morning by the chair of Community Food Moray Donna Breen. She makes some telling points about the support from our MP and MSP for food banks, most notably the response to an earlier letter she wrote in which Angus and Richard appeared more concerned at pointing out how different it will be when a Yes vote is delivered - or, put another way, using the issue for political means. I agree with her. Telling CFM that they can now apply for help from a £1m emergency funding pot from the Scottish Government is all well and good - but is a drop in the ocean. She also made the excellent point that food banks are appearing to be used as an alternative to failing welfare policies rather than the emergency, short-term measure they are intended to be. In other words - less sound-bites and more action please. Second point - prattling on at the terrible MoD for refusing to have the red arrows leave a blue and white trail depicting the Scottish flag rather than their traditional red white and blue trail during the Commonwealth Games Opening. Cmon people, keep the politics OUT of the games please? All of you - both sides - KEEP IT OUT. I might be an auld middle-of-the-road type of person but it seems to me that honesty in all aspects of the campaign from all sides will go much farther than the bullshit political crap we are having to put up with :) Ill now away and wash, shave and don an iron jacket :)
