Friday song of the day: Youre Gonna Miss Me by The 13th Floor Elevators. The legendary 13th Floor Elevators were one of the first psychedelic bands. Led by Roky Erickson, the band formed in 1965 in Austin, Texas. They released their first single, Youre Gonna Miss Me, in early 1966. Before breaking up in 1969, the band released four albums and several singles, and had only minimal national success. The debut single was the only song that cracked the charts, topping out at #55. Their influence on later bands far exceeded their sales, however. The breakup was largely the result of Roky Ericksons mental illness, which became apparent in 1968. He was then diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and was institutionalized from 1969 through 1972, where he was subjected to forced electroshock therapy.
