Fridays lyrical puzzler (11/28/2014): Years go by, Im looking through a girlie magazine, and theres my homeroom angel on the pages in between, my blood runs cold, my memory has just been sold… ************ Thursdays lyrical puzzler (11/27/2014): You made me feel like I never felt, kisses so good, I had to holler for help, you didnt have to squeeze me like you did, but you did, but you did… Answer: I Thank You, Sam and Dave, 1968 Fun fact: Yesterdays Thanksgiving-appropriate lyric is from a song written in 1967 by relative newcomers Isaac Hayes and David Porter for the Memphis-based Stax Records label artists Sam and Dave. Sam Moore and Dave Prater, who learned their chops singing gospel music in their church choirs in the 50s, had a strong run on the charts between 1965-69, tallying 10 Top Ten hits on the R&B charts, five of which also reached the Top Ten on the mainstream singles charts. I Thank You reached #9 in early 1968. They were hugely influential to many artists who followed, from Bruce Springsteen to Al Green to Steve Winwood. The duo were famously at odds much of the time, though, and although they performed together throughout the 70s as well, they often went years without speaking to each other off stage.
