Fridays scene of the day: This weeks theme is Chow Yun-fat is Actually Incredibly Cool. I like to end things on a high note, and what better way to end Chow Yun-fat week than with a taste of the greatest Hong Kong action movie ever? 1989s The Killer is a monster of a film, the template for practically every hitman-with-a-heart film to come out since. It boasts scenes of gunplay that would make Sam Peckinpah and Quentin Tarantino blush, but anchoring it all is Chows extraordinarily intense performance as Ah Jong, a fundamentally good man who wants nothing more than to extricate himself from his bloody profession. This scene follows a hit gone bad, when Ah Jong was ambushed by dozens of men trying to kill him. He meets with his handler, a friend hes known for years but who he now has every reason to believe will try to kill him.
