Fridys lyrical puzzler (12/12/2014): I got married to the widow next door, shes been married seven times before… ************* Thursdays lyrical puzzler (12/11/2014): Let it all out, these are the things I can do without, come on, Im talking to you, come on… Answer: Shout, Tears for Fears, 1985 Fun fact: The US charts in the summer of 1985 were dominated by the British band Tears for Fears, which was actually a duo -- Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith -- who had formed in 1981 and enjoyed a decent following in the UK. The Songs in the Big Chair LP brought them international fame, scoring #1 status in 12 countries including the US, where it topped the charts for five weeks. The first single, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, reached #1 in June and was then followed by Shout, their descend #1 only four weeks later. Shout is essentially a protest song, urging people not to blindly follow but to instead question authority and speak out when they disagree with their government. It took the duo four years to release their next LP, The Seeds of Love, which reached #2 here, but the duo then parted ways, and Orzabal continued on his own using the Tears for Fears name on three subsequent albums. The quality remained but the sales evaporated.
