Friend, When Congress started their summer recess five weeks ago, pundits said that comprehensive immigration reform was dead on arrival. We thought otherwise, so we mobilized and sent you to congressional town halls all across the nation. There you educated your elected officials on the truth of Catholic social teaching, which tells us that 11 milliong aspiring American immigrants are our brothers and sisters and as children of God deserve a home in the United States. You spoke the truth, and the results were phenomenal. Because of your work, twenty four new representatives announced their support for immigration reform with an earned pathway to citizenship. It is now clear: we have enough votes to pass immigration reform. We have just one person standing in our way: the Catholic Speaker of the House John Boehner. Speaker Boehner is refusing to bring immigration to the floor for a vote, because he knows it will pass. We have a simple message for Speaker Boehner: uphold your Catholic faith, bring immigration reform to the house floor for a vote and secure the rights and dignity for our immigrant brothers and sisters. Will you help us pass immigration reform? Even fifteen dollars can help push us over the top as we work to pass one of the biggest pieces of legislation in recent American history.
