Friends - I apologize if this post doesnt interest you - please ignore it! For others, I thought this dialogue was remarkable. Two great intellects from different perspectives, lots of firmly-stated convictions but also mutual respect. Lets hope theres a book and lecture tour! :-) Full disclosure: my own perspective often resembles Jim Martins. Typically I think Ross Douthats columns are thoughtful, well-reasoned, and presented well, even in cases where I disagree with him. In this case I think he let emotion get the best of him with his original column and didnt fully recognize what he was implying or saying. Even his responses to Jim Martin here are (in my opinion) evasive. Hes erudite and has a huge vocabulary, but I think he missed the mark originally and did so again here. But I respect the effort.
