Friends - It is time for the Veterans of the United States and those that have so wonderfully and faithfully supported us to stand up and say NO MORE.... We love our country, and with a few exceptions, volunteered or accepted the draft notice over the years with the motivation to serve our great nation. We wanted to protect our land, our people, our families and our Constitution. All we ever asked in return is that the contractual obligations that were agreed to on our enlistment would be met, as well as a place to be buried with a simple headstone. The problems that we face are not new – nor will GEN Shinseki’s ouster solve them. However, these problems are indicative of the degradation of our society, our government and the bureaucratic systems emplaced to meet the obligations owed to our veterans. While we see grandstanding by the likes of Representative C. Brown from Florida, claiming that there is no issue in the Sunshine State, and proclamations of intent from the Commander in Chief, we see no real action. We have but two recourses left. We can apply pressure to our elected representatives through the media, letter writing, social media, and Veterans Groups and hopefully get the VA system streamlined, fixed and healthy – failing that…. Failing that, we must march on Washington. This would not be the first time that Veterans have taken their grievances to the seats of power. I do not say this lightly or without trepidation, knowing the many third and fourth order effects that such an action may create. However, if we all push – HARD – on Congress to do the right thing – and let them know that we WILL show up on the National Mall demanding action….perhaps they will act expeditiously… Here is the thing…. There are veterans dying *right now* - and we get a hurried change in command and a few GS15s fired? Seriously Mr. President? You have done nothing. Seriously Congress? You have also done nothing… WE NEED TO FIX THE VA RIGHT NOW. So the choice is yours…sit on social media and complain - or get on the phone, write letters, get in the face of some politicians and FORCE them to hear us. #fixtheVA
