Friends - we need your help. The following has been posted by the ATL Symphony Musicians on Jethro Tulls Facebook page. Would you please consider going to their page and POLITELY request that they not play? Also, if you have a Twitter account, it would be wonderful if youd tweet there too! Thank you! Mr. Ian Anderson Jethro Tull c/o Brad Goodman WME Entertainment Dear Mr. Anderson, The members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra have the utmost respect for your wide-ranging talents and many of us have enjoyed your recordings and your appearances in the Atlanta area. As you may know, the ASO Musicians have been locked out by the Woodruff Arts Center since September 7 when our contract ended and our management refused to consider our offer of continuing to negotiate under the old agreement. We have been without salary since then, denied access to the building in which we work, and our health insurance benefits are scheduled to be cut off in less than one week. We understand you have a concert scheduled for September 30 at Symphony Hall by ASO Presents, which is an arm of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. You may not be aware that last week the national office of American Federation of Musicians named the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, ASO Presents, and the Woodruff Arts Center on the Unfair List, a very serious act which bars any AFM member from accepting or performing under the auspices of any of these organizations (links provided below). We know this is late notice but we had hoped that somehow we might have been able to negotiate a deal with our management to end the lockout. Ironically, earlier this week ASO management proposed the use of a Federal Mediator, which we accepted, and then the same day they cancelled all ASO concerts until at least November 8. The lockout thus continues. We know that you have been supportive of musicians in your long and distinguished career and we are hoping that you will now support us in our effort to get a fair and reasonable contract by canceling or at least rescheduling your engagement. It would be a tremendous opportunity for you to show your solidarity with symphonic musicians all over the world, and to be a true advocate for our art form. Thank you for your consideration. In solidarity, The Musicians of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra afm.org/about/international-unfair-list nytimes/…/atlanta-symphony-orchestra-music-d… theguardian/…/the-atlanta-symphony-orchestra…
