Friends, I discussed my two cents #Ferguson and my view on the root of the problem with BBC. I am glad the President acted on this issue, but his decision to fund mere 50,000 cameras, in my view, is not a sufficient response to a very basic need of 21st century policing, i.e. recorded police encounters. For perspective, just NYC has 35,000, City of Orlando has 700 and the City of Dallas has 3500 uniformed police officers. The second leg of this problem is that local leadership in most cities lack the political will to regulate these cameras by instituting policies as to when and how to operate them, that very simply cannot be left at the officers discretion. My real concern is that throwing money at the problem without real meaningful legislation at either federal or local level will bring us back to revisit the frustrations of Ferguson, every few years.
