Friends, Kesaruhs post below on Betty Boop may, I hope, spark off something that is right now the biggest problem DCAWS has. Saturday at PetSmart we had a fantastic day, chalking up 35 adoptions (both outright and those who had been out foster to adopt) and that is wonderful. What is not so wonderful is that back at home at least half of the shelter population bear long-term status. Some are seniors, some have to be placed as only pets, some nice ones are pits (which bears a stigma and is often forbidden in some areas), some are shy, some are simply overlooked, some cats have FIV but are in good health. Puppies and kittens are usually easily placed. Very large dogs also find homes quickly. Tiny dogs can find homes no matter what condition they are in or how temperamental they are. Please, we are not knocking the people who give these homes because that is important also. We are simply seeking out those who will give a place to those who have been homeless such a very long time. Even if you cannot adopt, you can help network and spread the word. Pictured is Maddie and Lizzie, both at the top of the lists in order of entry. Thanks for reading this
