Friends Pride was amazing! One of the organisers commented to me I gave it to your people pointing at transpoeple. the comment didnt irritate me but it warmed my heart that my people were they are known seen. Thisgoes a long way into trans visibility. Coz of old age I didnt march but the stronger trans comrades marched and they came back a bit upset coz the speakers and leaders of the march need to be reminded of us in every second setence. So the transppl kept on completing their sentence ...and gender identity The big stage looked naked/plain so the gentle man that I am asked if I could hang our transgender banner. I was told NO. The board wont allow it. This should highlight lesbians. If we allow you we should allow everyone else. Everyone else - businesses and vendors that were there. This frustrated me but I maintained my cool attituded and attempted to educate. Still didnt win. Coz I planned it to be a good day. There was no willingness to be visibly inclusive of transpeople. I then found an amazing spot to hang our banner. Even a blind person could find us. my people old and knew could find easily. We were there. We claimed space. We couldnt be made invisible. With my speech I chose not to antagonise as there is still a big need to continue engage with the movement about transpeople and trans struggles. Sometimes I have a feeling that within the movement there is competition about who is the worst victim and people sometimes dont like it when they loose their victim status. We will engage with the orgnisers to ensure that the march also hihglights trans struggles. We cant just be treated and be seen as everyone else. We are the minority group that suffer a lot of societal and systemic descrimination and therefore a space like Soweto Pride should allow us a voice. Thank you all my people for messages of support and to all of you who joined us at our spot - Sbu
