Friends, We just got word from Housing Right Committee of San Francisco that there is going to be an emergency home defense rally for five low-income households: Low-income families will rally April 30 at 3 p.m. at their building at 741 Ellis St., where they have lived for 12 years, demanding that their landlord, Ty Durekas, withdraw their eviction notices immediately. Durekas is the CEO of OnCare, an internet childcare company. He recently bought the building. The building was built after 1979, so it is not under rent control or just cause eviction protection. It is one of a growing number of buildings where tenants are being evicted that are not under tenant protections because of state law prohibiting the extension of rent control to buildings built after 79. The landlord has hired the notorious Bornstein and Bornstein. Please, help if you can....Thanks! Eviction Free San Francisco
