Friends,We need as many of you to attend this final public meeting as is possible. We believe this is the last step before Obama declares Browns Canyon a National Monument. There will be some food but best to arrive by noon and get a seat. After the meeting there will be a very popular Front Range Band, Grant Farm, playing at the Boathouse. If you can go, please email me that you will be there. We are trying to get a good preliminary count. MARK UDALL COLORADO 730 SENATE HART OFFICE BUILDING WASHINGTON, DC 20510 (202) 224-5941 United States Senate WASHINGTON, DC 20510 December 2, 2014 Dear Mr. Dils, As families across Colorado give thanks this holiday season, they do not need to look far for inspiration. Colorado has breathtaking natural landscape that inspires millions, generates important economic activity and provides unrivaled recreational opportunities. It is essential that we continue to do all we can to protect Colorados lands and our special way of life. After decades of hard work and over 18 months of grassroots public outreach, Chaffee County officials, community leaders, local businesspeople, ranchers, and veterans agree - it is time to designate Browns Canyon as a national monument. While I remain committed to the legislative process, the gridlock in Congress is stalling this collaborative effort. This proposal is too important to again fall victim to Congressional dysfunction. That is why I have invited senior federal officials - including U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell and Bureau of Land Management Deputy Director Steve Ellis - to join us in Chaffee County this Saturday and hear about this proposal firsthand. You have been vocal on this issue in the past and I am hopeful that you will find time to join us this Saturday and make your voice heard. Find more information about Saturdays public meeting below: Public Meeting to Discuss the Future of Browns Canyon Saturday, December 6th 1pm to 3pm The SteamPlant Theater 220 W. Sackett Ave Salida, CO 81201 Sincerely, Mark E. Udall U.S. Senator Reed Dils kdils@me Conservation is a cause that has no end. There is no point at which we say, Our work is finished -Rachel Carson
