Friends, When I was a younger child I had loads of energy and an appetite to match. My mother called me “skinny well fed”. My mother, a tough, yet innocent, fun luvin, outgoing, yet stern scottish lass, was not one to dole out words of wisdom and sage advice. She resorted to a look that could burn through steel and a voice that said it all. When she ordered, I listened. You did not mess with my mom. One hot summer day, famished, and eager to fill that endless hole in my stomach, I asked her if I could make a bologna sandwich. Yes, bologna. It’s all I knew and it was pure heaven. With mustard. She said no. Wait for it. Some very wise words of wisdom coming up. I whined a childish prepubescent whine: `But you never let me make a sandwich.` `Never?`she replied. I was stunned. She had me thinking. She was right. She “never” lets me make a sandwich?….I thought to myself. It clicked. Her point was made. I was being unrealistic. I see this a lot in the photographic industry. Some subscribers send me emails with accusations and blame, tell me I never give out wise advice. Uh? Seriously? All they see is the sales pitch. Or the political incorrectness in my rants. Or the spelling misteaks. And they savor knowing they “got me.” You know the type. I hope yor not one of dem…. Because if you are you are blinding yourself to the best path available to anyone who wants to succeed in their own photography business. Let’s face it, you’re being unrealistic. You see, when a photographer has some valid and useful information, and they are successful, i want to take them home. But I can’t. That would be weird. But if they have some cool educational materials, yea! I buy. If I like what they got. It’s that simple. I don’t over react like some of those sensitive and tender little pussy cats we see so often in this industry. I invest. And I study and I implement. Why? Because that, my fellow warrior and goddess of light, is the KEY to success. And I want to succeed. I hope you do too.
