Friends, With input from US Fish & Wildlife; Rosemary Alles of the Global March for Elephants and Rhinos; Patty Weston, Theresa Deleon, and Karla Rohova of the Krewe of Tusk & Horn I have drafted/edited the recently passed Bills in New Jersey and New York to prohibit Ivory Trade to resolve current issues needing to be addressed to prevent extinction of Elephants and Rhinos at both the City, State, and Federal levels. I am taking a page from the Sierra Club which successfully promoted the Mayors Climate Action Agreement during 2005-2008. This pledge is for Citizens, Candidates, Mayors, Assembly members, Representatives, and Senators. A Facebook page has been created called US Pledge and Legislation for Species Conservation and a Pledge / Petition posted on AVAAZ. The objectives are to 1. Oppose the currently opposed Senate S2587 and House Bills H5052 which would resend the recent increased actions by US Fish & Wildlife to enforce the 1973 Endangered Species Act and parts of the CITES Agreement. - Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species. But resolve issues regarding the sale of Antique Ivory and Musical Instruments made before 1975. The most important piece of this legislation would be to make Wildlife Trafficking a RICO offense which would triple penalties and make it part of 18USC1961 which was designed to stop organized crime and make prosecution easier for Federal Agencies.
