Friends and Colleagues: Regrettably the BNT has not been provided with sufficient details to comment as to whether or not the dredging is occurring in the prescribed/agreed manner, nor are we able to determine if the agreed monitoring protocols are being followed. We are beginning to draw conclusions however, that based on the photos that are in circulation, it would appear that the siltation curtains are not working effectively and as such The BNT is extremely concerned about long term damage to the nearby dive sites and the fragile marine environment of Bimini in general. We would hope that the BEST Commission is closely monitoring this situation and are in the process of addressing of this matter on an urgent basis. We have therefore written to the Minister of Environment and the BEST Commission asking for an urgent update on the Bimini situation and to urge corrective action that the photos we have seen, appear to warrant.
