Friends, as one who has seen first hand the unmerciful effects of ALS on a loved one (my mother died in 96 of it) I think all the recent attention, awareness, and funds raised by the recent Ice bucket campaign is wonderful. That being said, I must in good conscience, question the criteria of the campaign in our state of California and of any state in the west affected by the severe drought we are in. MILLIONS of gallons of water are being WASTED. Perhaps a substitution of confetti and a donation would be a better approach or if you feel compelled to follow the ice and water challenge, at the very least, pour it where you would need to water anyway, not on a patio or driveway, etc. where it is just going to go to waste. Its great that so much recent attention has been brought to ALS but dont forget we also have a crisis that will also have very severe implications in our near future if the rains and snow do not come for another year or two. Just something to think about.
