Friends from the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless have organized this letter and survey for on behalf of this permanent housing project to Minnesota housing. Please consider adding your name in support by clicking on the link and share with others who also believe in this much-needed project: Please consider adding your name in support of housing for families exiting homelessness in Moorhead. The Moorhead City Council voted unanimously to send a letter to the Commissioner of the Minnesota Housing Agency against the much-needed project. This is the communitys opportunity to share their opposing view. Dear Commissioner Tingerthal: As people who live, work, and play in the Moorhead area we are a community of compassion and strongly supportive of innovative solutions that address the shortage of affordable and supportive housing in our community. Specifically, we are supportive of the housing development being led by Churches United. From 2000 - 2012, homelessness in Moorhead doubled (from 113 to 250, with children and youth representing 26% of the homeless population). In the past couple of years, weve started to reduce the homeless numbers slightly. We know its not only the right thing to do; its the smart thing to do. Housing stability means kids do better at school and workers do better at work. Our community has come together to open churches as an emergency response; our nonprofit sector is leading the state in coordinated strategies to serve people most efficiently and effectively; we are a pilot community for housing homeless school children. Were leading on innovation but we also need investment. Please do not let the opinions of our City Council negatively impact your thoughtful consideration of a worthy project in a community with great need.
