Friends, it is so sad what is going on in Atlantic City, or should I say what is not going on. Specifically the lack of conventions. When I launched Insider Magazine in 1996 to cater to the convention market we had at least ten more good size conventions then we do today. Thats 18 years ago. you often hear it takes a few years to book new shows and that is true, particularly some of the bigger ones. but not only have we lost the ten noted above, the convention sales people havent booked any new shows of any consequence over that 18 year period. What the hell have these convention sales folks been doing all that time? and, to make matters worse I heard a local elected official on Pinkys show a couple weeks ago sharing his outrage at the lack of convention sales to date and rightfully so. We should all be outraged. So I decided to call that official to share a few ideas on how convention sales can be jump-started quickly. Still waiting for a return call. Like everything in AC, I guess his outrage was just theatre for the audience. lots of talk and no action. Pretty much what has been going on since they passed Casino gaming 38 years ago. Talk, talk, talk. I dont know about any of you but Ive had it with these people. AC is circling the bowl and all they can do is talk. Time to clean house now.
