Friends, its official! Next year (2015) I will try to set a worldwide Big Year record: My goal is to see 5,000 species of birds between Jan 1 and Dec 31, by traveling through 30+ countries on all seven continents. This will be a continuous, once-round-the-world birding trip, lasting exactly one calendar year - something nobody has ever tried before. I have signed a book contract with Houghton Mifflin to write about this adventure, and will be blogging about it throughout next year on the National Audubon Societys main website - so everyone can follow along ;) The logistics are mind-numbing, but my aim is to connect with local birders around the world for company in the field. If any of you know good, passionate birders who I might connect with (especially in Latin America, Africa, and Asia), please let me know. Our global network of birders, more than anything, will help make this story successful. There is a ton of planning to do, but Im stoked! Its going to be an incredible year!
